It sounds reasonable that the more students a teacher are teaching, the less each student learns. Because there is only so much teacher to go around. But, there can be so many more impacts than just that.
As a Morrisville Montessori school, our team at Paramount Montessori school is focused on providing the best education for our students. Thus, we study the impacts of student-teacher ratio.
3 key impacts that occur when the student-to-teacher ratio drops are:
- Higher Achievement: Among all students – including race, socioeconomic status, and gender – academic achievement begins to rise. In larger classrooms, certain students will excel, and certain students will fall behind. When a teacher can’t spend individualized time with students due to classroom size, the number of students left behind rise.
- Less Educational Set Backs: Certain students learn different ways. Sometimes, these are called learning disabilities. In a smaller classroom, more students with a learning disability are learning and retaining information. In larger classrooms, almost all students with learning disabilities suffer.
- Student Attitudes: The size of the class, and thus the achievement levels of the class, impact the attitude of each student. This is a lifelong attitude towards learning. Students in larger classrooms have a harder time learning to enjoy the classroom.
While these are just a few of the impacts of low student-to-teacher ratios, the research is clear. The fewer students to each teacher has the best outcome for the student.
At Paramount Montessori, we have a low student-teacher ratio in all of our classrooms. To learn more about our Montessori school, contact us now.
